Christine Cable – Fairfield

Christine Cable, 69, of Fairfield died on July 22, 2022, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease, a struggle she faced with dignity and grace.

Not long after her diagnosis in 2009, she decided to donate her brain to Washington School of Medicine for Parkinson’s research, in the hope that a cure may be found for this debilitating disease.  That donation has been made.

Chris was born in Haskell, Texas, on February 13, 1953, the second child of Warren and Annabelle Holman Cable.  She was the salutatorian of Fairfield Community High School’s class of 1971 and a graduate of St. Louis Christian College’s class of 1975.  She later earned a master’s degree in counseling from SIU Edwardsville.

She spent 42 years serving St. Louis Christian College and was its dean of students for the last 25 years before retiring and returning to Fairfield in 2017.  A life-long musician, Chris was an accomplished pianist and oboist.  During her tenure at the college, she taught piano and accompanied choral groups and soloists.  For many years, she led the worship team at Halls Ferry Christian Church in Florissant, MO.  She began playing oboe in Center Street School’s band and continued through high school.  From sixth grade through high school, she was a member of Fairfield’s city band woodwind section, and later she played in community theater orchestras near her home in Florissant.

Chris is survived by her siblings Judy (Chuck) Griswold of Fairfield; Jim Cable of Dallas; and Cyndy (Kevin) Warren of Poughquag, NY, as well as nieces and nephews C.G. (Missy) Griswold of Valparaiso, IN; Jennifer (Karl) Griswold-Kuhn of Nacogdoches, TX; Curt (Maggie) Warren of Poughquag, NY; Ethan (Dani) Warren of Albany, NY; Catherine (Jeff) Schaffer of Chicago, IL; and Olivia Cable-Barber of Monterrey, CA.  Great-nieces and great-nephews Annabelle and William Griswold, Judith Kuhn, Andrew Warren, and Reed Warren also survive, as well her aunts and uncles Emmadean Felix, Eleanor Tripp, and Harold and Glenda Holman. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, Cloyd and Bess DeSelms Cable and Hayward and Alice Feller Holman, dear friend Lisa Copple, and several aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be conducted at noon on Friday, August 12, at Fairfield’s First Christian Church.  The funeral will be streamed on the church’s Facebook page, First Christian Fairfield.  Visitation will take place prior to the service from 10 until noon.  Donations in Chris’ memory may be made to the First Christian Church or to Washington University School of Medicine for Dr. Joel Perlmutter’s Parkinson’s disease research.  Donations will be accepted at the funeral.

Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
