Herman Lowell Brown – Fairfield

Herman Lowell Brown, age 93 of Fairfield, passed away August 10,2022 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital Skilled Care Unit.  He retired after working 30 years for Trunkline Gas Company, many years at the Johnsonville Station, then as superintendent at Ambia, IN and retiring as superintendent at Dyersburg, TN.

Herman was born in Massac County, IL near Brookport, July 4, 1929, the son of Scott and Fern Meyers Brown.  In 1947 he married Dorothy Helen Horntrop in Metropolis.  They lived in Metropolis until 1956 then moved to Cisne.  Upon retiring they moved to Fairfield in 1984.

Herman served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during the Korean Conflict from Dec 1951- Nov 1954.  He was a member of the Waldo Baptist Church in Massac County and attended King’s Chapel Church in Fairfield.  After retiring he enjoyed traveling, spending time at his farm in Massac County and attending Friday night country music events.  He loved ‘his girls’ on the Skilled Care Unit of Fairfield Memorial Hospital where he spent the last 3 years of his life.

Visitation will be held from 9:30-11 AM on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield.  Graveside services and burial with Lawrence Ward officiating and military rites will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, August 16th in St. John’s United Church of Christ Cemetery east of Metropolis.

Survivors include one daughter, Pat (David) Kenshalo of Fairfield, one son, Robert (Sandra) Brown of Robinson, two grandsons Luke (Brittany) Brown of Oblong and Caleb (Amanda) Brown and great-granddaughter Lola Brown of Taylorville, step granddaughter Casandra Veach of Oblong, and special friend Billie Farmer of Fairfield.  He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and his parents.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Fairfield Memorial Hospital Skilled Care Unit Activity Fund or King’s Chapel Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
