Leona Ann Bullard – Fairfield

93 year old Fairfield resident, Leona Ann Bullard passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022 at her home. Surrounded by her family and friends.

Leona was born October 3, 1928 to Newton and Emma (Carlock) Lippert in Bath, Illinois. From the age of 2 she was raised by a country Doctor and his wife, Dr. Samuel Sherman Harriman and wife Estella.  She always called them Auntie and Doc.

She graduated from Lyndon High School as Salutatorian in 1946. In 1949, she graduated from Graham Nursing School in Canton, IL as a Registered Nurse.  After getting married they moved to Scott City, KS, where she was a private duty nurse. Upon returning to the Johnsonville area, she worked at Fairfield Memorial Hospital from 1953 to 1982,  for twenty-five years she was the OB Supervisor. She worked six years at Way-Fair Restorium as Director of Nursing.  She taught Lamaze, Medical Terminology, Health and First Aid through Frontier Community College.

She was a Devout Christian and was very active in numerous community programs.  At the First Christian Church she was active in the Hand bell Choir, Young at Heart, Taco Tuesday, Joy Class, Martha Circle, Senior Saints and Meals on Wheels.She was also a Lifetime Member of the Wayne County Historical Society and on the Board at the Clothesline

She is survived by her Daughter and Son-in-law Kalene and Allen Winslett of Denison, TX, One Granddaughter Eny Fu Bullard of Franklin TN. Kalene’s half- sister Misty Bullard and several nieces, And nephews.  Also special caregivers Lora Hoskins and Deb Vangilder as well as many others.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister LaNora Boeker, a Step-Sister Ethel Jeane Wendt, her son Bevley E. Bullard Jr as well as Auntie and Doc and their daughter Carrie

Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Nale’s Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 25, 2022 at the First Christian Church With burial at Maple Hill Cemetery

Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church for Taco Tuesday and will be accepted at Nale’s Funeral Home or at the church.
