It’s Fire Prevention Week in Illinois, and it’s the 100th year that Illinois has designated a special week for fire safety awareness. This year’s theme is “Fire Won’t Wait – Plan Your Escape” as firefighters and their departments throughout the state encourage all families to make a family escape plan and to practice it often with all ages of the family, especially the young ones. It’s also a great time of the year to make sure that all those fire and smoke alarms are fully operational with new batteries in place. More information and details about being prepared for a fire are available online at illinoisfirefighters.org.

Unseasonably cool weather will prevail across out downstate area today through Wednesday with frost and freeze warnings in effect for the next two mornings, all due to a Canadian high pressure that’s ridging out across the Great Plains. We’ll slowly warm up each day with a dry and clear sky almost each day and night by Sunday. At this point in time, there’s no significant chance of rain in this week’s forecast.
