Martha “Jane” Hancock, 75, of Clay City, IL passed away Friday, March 17 surrounded by family.

She was born in Mt. Vernon, IL on June 21st, 1947 to Victor and Evelyn (Clutter) Behymer. She married Dwight Hancock on January 10th, 1977, together they had five children.

Jane will be remembered by many as a bus driver, a lawn mower, an Amazing Aunt, a Loving Granny, but most importantly a Devoted Wife and Mother. She drove a school bus for Clay City for over 40 years, by the time the second and third generation kids rolled around the parents were happy knowing Jane would get their children to and from school safely. Anyone who ever road her bus knows, you could hear a pin drop. She took the responsibility extremely serious and did not allow horseplay on her bus route. Jane and her kids, nephew, and later grandchildren mowed many yards. Often said in the mow bus in the heat of the day “Just one more yard”. Everyone knew that meant at least two, hard work never stopped Jane.

Jane loved spending time with family. Her laughter was loved and will be missed by many. She enjoyed gardening and soaking up the sunshine. Summers were spent at the cabin on the lake with family and a yard full of friends. She treasured the time with her kids, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, family, and friends.

Jane is survived by her husband Dwight; Daughter Dana (Alex) Lyons, Daughter Pam (Steve) Kerber, Daughter Shannon (Bill) Hall, Son Shane Hancock, Daughter Nicole (Brian) Locke, Grandchildren: Jordan Lyons (Anna), Jennifer McCarthy (Nick), Jarrod Lyons (Jessica),Stephanie (Chris) Spangler, Paxton Kerber, Zak (Rachel) French, Cody French, Maverick (Ashlynn) French, Josh and Taylor Hancock, Lexi Locke and 7 great grandchildren, and Sister Louise Mosely

Jane was preceded in death by her mother and father Victor and Evelyn Behymer, Sisters Ann Shaffer and Dorthea Behymer, grandson Gage French, and son in law Greg French.

A visitation for Jane will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, March 20, 2023 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Clay City, Illinois.

A funeral service for Jane will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 21 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Clay City, with internment immediately following the service at Clay City Cemetery.
