Charles “Red” Roser, 80, Carmi

Charles “Red” Roser, 80, of Carmi, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh Indiana while surrounded by his family.  He was born on August 13, 1942, in Carmi, Illinois, the son of Carl and Vida (Ragel) Roser. Red proudly served in the Army National Guard.  He owned and farmed Roser Farms in Carmi and was the previous owner of the John Deere dealership in Carmi. Red had been a long-time member of the Carmi Elks Lodge and valued his Elks brotherhood. He mentored many farmers and friends over the years. He was a good steward of the land. He enjoyed his friends, family, farming, helping friends and neighbors, salmon fishing in Wisconsin, boating, and racing all types of cars. He finished in the top 3 in the world for go-carting. He never met a stranger and always left people better than he found them. He also enjoyed listening to local sports as well as watching National sports. His favorite team was the Green Bay Packers and he often hosted football Sundays.     Red is survived by a son and two daughters, Scott Roser of Carmi, IL, Annette Carter of Newburgh, IN, and Natalie (Jonathan) Hampton of Carmi, IL; grandchildren, Kai and Trisha Roser, Reid and Nolan Carter, Adam, Noah and Cayne Roser,  Quinton, Bryce, Alexia and Christian Chambliss and Alissa, Neveah and August Hampton; one great-grandchild, Zayvionne Sledge.  He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Ryan Adam Roser; and two siblings, Lowell Roser, and Marilyn Renfro.     A celebration of life for Charles “Red” Roser will be held on April 15th, 2023, at the Carmi Elks Lodge. Visitation will be from 5-7 followed by his celebration. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Red’s memory to the Carmi Elks Lodge and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi who is in charge of arrangements.
