Edwards County Sees Baseball and Softball Come to End

The Edwards County Baseball Team saw their season come to an end as they fell to Elvorado 2-1 at the 1A Boys Baseball Regional at Southeastern Illinois College. The Lions rally came short as they scored their lone run in the 7th and had the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position. The loss leaves Edwards County finishing 13 and 13 on the season

In other area baseball from Saturday, Anna-Jonesboro knocked off Mount Carmel 8 to 2 to claim the Carmi-Baseball Regional. Teutopolis defeated Salem 4 to 1 to win the baseball regional at Greenville. Harrisburg shut out Johnston City 12 to 0 in 5 innings to claim the regional at Harrisburg.

The Edwards County Lady Lions softball team also saw their season come to an end after falling to Altamont in Altamont by a final of 4-1. Grace Lemke for Altamont was centimeters away from a no-hitter when Allison Groff reached on an infield hit in the 7th. Altamont scored first in the top of the 2nd and Edwards County tied it up in the bottom half. Altamont took the lead in the top of the 4th and added 2 more in the 5th. Edwards County softball finishes the year 12-14.

In other Girl’s Softball Action, Waltonville downed Crab Orchard 8 to 2 to win the Waltonville Regional. Valmeyer defeated Odin-Patoka-Sandoval (Sand-oval) 4 to 2 to win the regional at Marissa. Salem defeated Staunton 4 to 2 at Greenville to win the Greenville Regional.
