The White County Sheriff’s Department is actively investigating a series of thefts involving all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), utility task vehicles (UTVs), and lawn mowers across the county. According to a recent statement from Sheriff Jordan Weiss, multiple reports have been received regarding stolen vehicles, many of which were taken with keys left in the ignition, stored in unsecured buildings, or parked in open areas.
Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant, secure their property, and report any suspicious activity as they follow up on all leads to locate the stolen vehicles and apprehend those responsible.
The Sheriff’s Department has issued the following recommendations to help prevent further thefts:
Remove keys from all vehicles and equipment when not in use.
Store vehicles in locked and secured locations whenever possible.
Record serial numbers and keep photographs of valuable property to aid in identification and recovery.
Residents are also encouraged to consider installing security cameras or other surveillance measures to deter theft and assist law enforcement.
Anyone with information regarding these thefts is asked to contact the White County Sheriff’s Department at 618-382-5321.
