A 42-year-old man from rural Mt. Vernon, identified as Christopher Ellis, died Tuesday night in a chainsaw accident while cutting down a tree at his residence on Forest Road. According to Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Bullard, Ellis’ wife discovered him unresponsive in the yard around 10 p.m. and immediately called 9-1-1.
Authorities found no signs of foul play, confirming that the death was the result of an accident. Sheriff’s deputies, a detective, EMS personnel, and Coroner Roger Hayse responded to the scene and pronounced Ellis dead.
