Illinois officials are urging homeowners to practice pool safety this summer. The number of residential pools has increased over recent years, raising the risk for accidental drownings. Every year in the United States, there are an estimated four-thousand unintentional drownings, while child drownings continue to be the leading cause of death among children ages 1 to 4 years old. Homeowners should install a four-sided fence with a self-closing, self-latching gate around all pools and spas.
