The Fairfield City Council met for their initial August meeting last night with a 6 item agenda.
The city’s ordinance banning placement of any mobile home over 15 years old was discussed at length. Mobile home owner, Jessica McCleary appeared before the council to request a special exception to the ordinance since she had recently placed a 1999 mobile home on Highland Ave. She provided photos of the mobile home and explained that she was of the understanding that the Zoning Board would and could issue exceptions to the ordinance. Mayor Moore informed her that exceptions had been discussed, but never adopted by the council. Aldermen were polled as to their feelings on changing the ordinance to allow for exceptions. Aldermen were mixed with their opinions on changing the ordinance. In the end, Mayor Moore stated that it was his duty as mayor to enforce existing ordinances and explained to McCleary that at the end of the 30 day placement period, she would be in violation and issued a citation and fine.
A proposed sidewalk project at Frontier College was rejected by the council. The proposed sidewalk would have run from Bobcat Crossing over to the baseball complex. The engineering estimate for the project was $28,100, however, 3 bids were submitted which included bids $57,160, $59,900, and $71,251. All bids were unanimously rejected and no future sidewalk plans were discussed.
Bids for tree removal at Maple Hill Cemetery were also rejected due to the extensive difference in the bids and services provided. The issue will be rebid, with exact guidelines and specifications provided to prospective bidders.
A TIF Agreement in the amount of $3,300 was approved for Raylen James Marketing. The TIF Committee had recommended approval.
Alderman Dewey Eckleberry requested that citizens who are washing side by sides and other recreational vehicles in their driveways to please not wash mud out into the street and be courteous to other residents by cleaning up.
