The Edwards County School Board is set to meet this evening at 7 in the K-12 Band Room in Albion.
On the agenda, they will look to approve the consent agenda which consists of approving the minutes from the May 15th meeting, the treasurer’s report, the June Bill List, looking to destroy closed session recordings older than 18 months, and look at a FOIA or Freedom of Information Act Report.
Under communications, they will allow for public comment and thank you letters and cards. Under unfinished business, the board will discuss possible actions involving security measures, look to approve the student handbook for the upcoming school year as well as look to approve a policy involving exhibits and the library media program, and finally look to approve the 2022-23 final budget.
Under new business, the board will look at the first reading of the 2023-24 handbook, including the coaches handbook, district employee handbook, transportation manual, and security manual. The board will have the first reading of the Edwards County Teachers Evaluation Instrument, a motion to approve donations over $500, and a motion to approve maintenance projects over $5,000.
Under Administrative reports, Superintendent Cowger will give his office report and will also go over the cafeteria report, prevailing wage, annual crisis meeting update, sales tax report, updated guidance on prayer and religious expression in public schools, bullying prevention amendment, time out and physical restraint guidelines, title 9 revised guidelines, and Wabash General Hospital’s Non-Homestead Property Tax Exemption Notice.
There will also be reports from High School Principal Dale Schmittler, Albion Grade School Principal Carrie Wells, Junior High Principal Kris Duncan, West Salem Grade School Principal Mark Beckel, and K-12 Assistant Principal Joe Rivers. The board will also handle resignations and employment matters, substitutes for the upcoming school year, and look at approving a few volunteer assistant coaches.
Prior to the board meeting, a public hearing will be held to amend the fiscal year 23 budget for the schools. That hearing will be held at 6:45 PM.
