The McLeansboro City Council met for its regular monthly session for just under an hour Tuesday night.
Kisha Incer and Carmen Black were sworn-in on to the Zoning Board of Appeals. It’s a volunteer position.
After the second reading of an ordinance concerning the MABAS (may-bass) agreement for the Fire Department, the board approved the ordinance. The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System, as required by the state of Illinois, partners with the IEMA for a mutual aid response system. It offers a fast response of community resources during ongoing emergencies.
Janice Crow, along with several representatives of Birth to Five Illinois addressed the board. They make communities aware of money available for early childhood care to children who may be below the poverty level. Region 20, which includes Hamilton County, has its highest levels of childhood poverty in the communities of Dale and Broughton. Birth to Five is now conducting a “regional needs” assessment, with the data expected to be in by July 1st, to see what resources are needed. The group will be at next month’s meeting to discuss what they found.
The Consent Agenda was approved. It contains a review of monthly financial reports including bills and transfers; a review of the June Zoning Report, which includes the demolition of the building on 209 West Cherry Street; and a review of Department Reports.
Also approved was permission to attempt purchasing the properties on 106 North Walnut and 517 West St. Charles at the 2023 Tax Sale. The date for the sale is yet to be determined.
The board decided to place two dumpsters at the fairgrounds, costing $500 apiece for a one month tryout with an appointment needed to use them. That will be in August as it will need to be added to the monthly budget. If there are no problems, it could possibly be made permanent.
Also approved was the purchase of three pieces of skid steer equipment at a cost of $9,500; the allowing of Dylan Williams to hold a bass tournament at Lake McLeansboro with a 100% payout, with the date being moved to September 2nd from 6am to 2pm; Mayoral Appointments for Fiscal Year 2024; and a resolution Authorizing the city to Pay Prior Approved Recurrent Debts.
There will be the annual Fireworks Display on July 4th, with a rain date of July 5th; and the city pool will close on August 2nd.
