Richard Deon Yates, 78, of Carmi, Illinois, died Thursday, July 13, 2023, at his home. He was born January 21, 1945, in Carmi, Illinois, the son of Earl and Vera (Whitlow) Yates. He married Cora B. Mecum on May 25, 1974, and she survives.
Richard retired from working in the oilfields of the Illinois Oil Basin. He was also and avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan.
Survivors include his wife, Cora Yates of Carmi, Illinois; son Shane Yates of San Luis Obispo, California; and granddaughter Monique Jensen of Sebastopol, California.
In keeping with Richard’s wishes, his remains were cremated and there are no services planned.
Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi, Illinois, is assisting the family.
