The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public to a tax scam in the area. They say scammers are hand delivering property tax notices and asking for payment. Officials say that the county doesn’t collect taxes in that manor. They say you can pay your property taxes at the county website (https://jeffersoncounty.illinois.gov/property_tax/index.php), at the treasurer’s office at the courthouse, or at most of the banks in the county.
