The Norris City Village Board met for over an hour Tuesday night instead of their regularly scheduled meeting date of the first Monday of the month.
There was much discussion concerning James Heath Short of La De Da Boutique for the settlement with him for reimbursement of TIF monies. He offered to pay back half, or $7,000, of the $14,000 in TIF money for building repairs. Since Short will have to pay court costs, the board members all agreed to continue pursuing getting back all of the money.
The board approved costs for final work on the Playground will be split evenly between the village and Roads Church. There will be “No Smoking” signs put up and speed strips will be installed. Opening Day for the Playground will be this Saturday, with food and drinks being served between 10 AM and 2 PM.
There will be a special board meeting on Friday, October 20th at 10 AM at the village hall concerning the water plant due to John Brown of Brown & Roberts Engineering not being present at this meeting.
Emergency funds had to be used for repairs at the sewer plant due to a pipe bursting and filling the basement with raw sewage.
Mayor “Skip” Land received board approval to try one more time to come to an agreement with John Schofield on his property.
$200 will be donated for a half-page ad in the NCOE Yearbook and $250 will be donated to sponsor all Cardinal school sports.
The village will continue to purchase natural gas from UGM, or Utility Gas Management.
Norris City is still working on getting $500,000 from The Illinois Funds. When they get the money it will be put into a money market account.
They’re also still looking into putting up new school signs with money from the Safe Routes to School Program.
The board agreed to let the Mayor negotiate with Mike Hite on becoming water plant operator with a salary of between $900 and $1,100 a month.
Liquor licenses for Doug’s Food Mart and the American Legion were both renewed with no changes.
The electricity contract with AGE was approved for another five year term.
Sealed bids on the 2010 Jeep and F250 truck were opened. They accepted the highest bid on the Jeep of $2,856 from Johnson Truck Sales and the highest bid on the truck for $3,200 from Aaron Summers.
More letters will be going out to residents soon on cleaning up their properties.
In the police report for September, there were 15 reports written, four accident reports, two arrests made, 15 traffic stops and warnings, and eight citations issued.
Halloween trick-or-treating will be from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday, October 31st.
