Major Change In Zoning Law Approved By Fairfield City Council

An ordinance amending the zoning code (removing apartments as a special exemption to the B-2 District was approved by the council. The ordinance prohibits residential apartments from being located in the downtown business district. Parking for local businesses has suffered due to on street parking by apartment tenants. Current apartments will be “grandfathered” in and not have to relocate. The planned Air BNB’s for the downtown area are considered businesses and are exempt from the ordinance.
In other business, The council unanimously approved a street closure request for this years Christmas Parade. The date for the parade is 12/2 with a rain/snow date of 12/9. The council announced that the Fairfield Fire Dept. annual Chili Dinner will be held on 10/27, with servings for lunch and dinner.
