Missing Person Found Safe in Clay County

On Friday at 1:50 p.m. the Clay County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to an address in Xenia in reference to a missing 80 year old female. It was reported that the individual had been missing since 10:00 a.m.
When deputies arrived they spoke with neighbors and learned that the individual was last seen at 8:30 a.m. They quickly began to search the immediate area, but were unsuccessful in locating them. A short time later the sheriff’s office contacted a local helicopter company to assist with the search.

The helicopter company arrived on scene and launched a drone equipped with thermal imaging at approximately 3:37 p.m., prior to arrival of the helicopter. At approximately 3:40 p.m. the operator advised that he had located the missing individual under a tree, which was surrounded by a standing corn field approximately 800 yards from her residence.

Emergency personnel responded to the area and located the individual who was alert but weak from the incident. The individual was transported by the Clay County Ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Xenia Police Department and Xenia Fire Protection District. “Those individuals that donate their time to our community are special people. I believe that the service provided today by the local helicopter company possibly saved a life and we are extremely grateful for that” states Sheriff Andy Myers.
