An Iuka man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison following a fatal traffic crash in Salem this past May that resulted in the death of a Salem resident.

Reports out of Salem say Justin Bullard was sentenced Friday to 35 years in prison for first-degree murder with an extra five years for aggravated driving under the influence.  Another five year sentence for aggravated street racing will be served concurrently with the aggravated DUI charge.

Bullard faced the charges in connection with the death of Nita Mobley who died in the crash in Salem after her car caught fire.  Bullard had been found guilty in a bench trial.  His attorney has filed a motion seeking a new trial that is set for December 13th at 10 a.m.  Bullard remains in the Marion County Jail.

Testimony at Bullard’s trial revealed that he was highly intoxicated and driving 90 mph from Sandoval to Salem, passing three vehicles on the shoulder and was still traveling 96 mph just before the fatal crash.  He will receive credit for 172 days he has already served in jail.
