The Wayne County Board met last night for their regular monthly session, with all board members present.
The 2024 fiscal year budget was approved, along with the levy for 2024. Bill Bruce cast the lone dissenting vote on the budget, while Eddie Barbre and Ronnie Windland cast no votes on the levy.
The following Drainage District Board Appointments were unanimously approved:
Jamie Pollard-3 year term-Big Mound, Jane Blanton-3 year term Elm River, N. Wayne Bunnage-3 year term Golden Gate, & Rodney Vaughan-3 year term Leech/Grover.
With the closing of the North Wayne Ambulance Service, the board voted to disperse the contract dollars to the entities that are providing ambulance service to the North Wayne area. The organizations and their funding are:
Wayne County Ambulance – $70,000
Clay County Ambulance – $40,000
Wayne City Ambulance – $ 40,000
North Wayne – $75,000
The board unanimously voted to purchase Christmas Lights for the courthouse lawn. The expenditure will not exceed $1,000 and will be installed, removed, and stored by the Fairfield Park District.
An ARPA Request from the Wayne County EMA was approved for $22,000. The money will be used to purchase a new Kawasaki side by side.
Building and Grounds Chairman, Eddie Barbre reported that the courthouse exterior work was mostly complete, with a punch list of corrections being generated for the contractor to address.
The county’s insurance carrier, Bryan Williams from CSI Insurance, informed the board that their premium rose by 4% this year, The board voted to continue the coverage.
