The Illinois State Police have announced their area patrols for the month of December.
According to ISP, State Police will conduction ACE or Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement Patrols in Wayne and Fayette Counties. ACE patrols allow the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to violations associated with impaired driving and illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol or drugs. Items that police will be looking for include DUI, seatbelt and child restraint violations, speeding, and distracted driving.
In Effingham and Hamilton Counties, troopers will be conducting NITE or Nighttime Enforcement Patrols. NITE patrols allow the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to impaired driving and occupant restraint violations especially between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. According to ISP, the number of unrestrained drivers killed in traffic crashes is significantly higher at nighttime and combined with impaired driving means even more traffic deaths during these critical hours. Items that police will be looking for include DUI, seatbelt and child restraint violations, speeding, and distracted driving.
In Marion and White Counties, ISP Troopers will be focusing on OREP or Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols. OREPs allow the ISP to focus on safety belt and child safety seat laws. Illinois law requires all vehicle passengers to be buckled up.
