Mary E. Winter, 97, Carmi

Mary E. Winter, 97, of Carmi passed away Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Wabash Senior Living and Rehabilitation in Carmi.  She was born in Gray Township, IL on January 2, 1926 the daughter of James Glen and Buenita (Thornburg) Burroughs.  Mary married Norman E. Winter on August 23, 1942 and he preceded her in death on May 22, 1997. She was a member of Carmi Emmanuel Church where she sang in the choir and was part of the Quilters and Crafters group.  Mary was also a member of Eastern Star and White County Home Extension where she served in the various officer positions. Mary was very artistic and enjoyed painting and quilting, along with working in the garden with her flowers.

Mary is survived by two sons, Richard (Janice) Winter of Burnt Prairie and Douglas (Nancy) Winter of Mill Shoals; six grandchildren, Chandra (James) Newcomb, Shannon (Neil) Bryant, Christopher (Cyndi) Draper, Jason (LeeAnn) Draper, Charisse (Brandon Igdalsky) Winter and Neil (Lauren) Winter: 11 great-grandchildren, Adarianna, Andrew, AnnaleasaJoy and Hannah Newcomb, Reagan (Kallie) Bryant, Isaac and Caleb Bryant, Abigail Draper, Lincoln and Emmaline Draper and Ada Winter;; a brother, John C. (Linda) Burroughs of Santa Cruz, CA; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Norman, daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Larry Draper and three siblings, Freda (Sam) Finch, Helen (Bob) Leise and James Burroughs.

Funeral Service for Mary E. Winter, 97, of Carmi will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 15, 2023 at Carmi Emmanuel Church.  Burial will be in White County Memorial Garden.  Friends may visit on Friday, December 15, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Carmi Emmanuel Church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to Carmi Emmanuel Church Memorial Fund or the Carmi Lions Club and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi who is assisting the family with arrangements.
