U.S. Supreme Court Refuses To Block Illinois’ Assault Weapons Ban

The U.S. Supreme Court is declining to block Illinois’ assault weapons ban. Justice Amy Coney Barrett denied an emergency request for an injunction. A similar request was denied by the court in May. The high court was asked to step in after the federal appeals court in Chicago upheld the law last month. It was passed in earlier this year in response to the deadly mass shooting at Highland Park’s 2022 July 4th parade.
