Wayne County Merit Commission Accepting Correctional Staff

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Merit Commission is accepting applications for the position of both full-time & part-time Correctional Officer, with an immediate full-time position to be hired. The Wayne County Jail is a 34-bed facility which houses both male and female detainees. The corrections field is a fast growing and exciting field for both male and female candidates. If you are interested in becoming a Correctional Officer with our office, we encourage you to come in, get an application and speak with our staff in regards to any questions you may have.

 

Starting pay for our full-time Correctional Officers is $19.67 an hour. Pay for a part-time Correctional Officer is $17.00 an hour.

 

Full-time Correctional Officers get the county employee benefit package that includes health insurance, IMRF retirement, contractual yearly raises along with longevity raises, vacation time, comp time and personal days. Correctional Officers also work four 10-hour shifts, giving them a 3-day weekend.

 

The Sheriff’s Office also continues to accept applications for lateral transfers for Correctional Officers as well. Full time certified Correctional Officers are eligible for a lateral transfer of up to 10 years seniority towards payroll.
