Residents in the Salem, Illinois area are being warned by their police department of a scam affecting them.
The police department says its received several calls from individuals and businesses of a person falsely claiming to represent the Salem Country Club and Golf Course. The scammer is trying to sell club memberships. Police have confirmed with the manager of the Salem Country Club that the person is not a representative of the club, and any such call is a scam.

The public is reminded to exercise caution when receiving unexpected calls and not give out personal information, and also not to send funds using gift cards, as this is a popular way scammers try to get their money from victims.
