Additional New Laws Set to Take Affect January 1

A host of new laws takes effect January first in Illinois — including one that bans anyone from driving while they’re on a Zoom video call. Also beginning January first, almost all Illinois workers will receive up to 40 hours of paid leave per year. Another law bans the use of electronic cigarettes inside private spaces and for 15 feet outside entrances. And another law will ban book bans. The law states any state and public libraries that plan on receiving state funding must agree not to ban any books.
