Charles R. Waters, 92, of Albion, passed away from this life, at 9:08am on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Wabash Senior Living and Rehabilitation in Carmi, IL, surrounded by his family.
Charles was born on October 31, 1931, in Ellery, IL, to Robert and Annie Belle (Chalcraft) Waters. On December 1, 1951, he married the love of his life, Clella Waters, and they were married 63 years before she passed away in 2015.
Charles was a veteran of the United States Army. He was also a lifelong farmer in Edwards and Wayne counties, and cattle was his hobby. He served his community by being a 4-H leader, an Edwards County soil and water conservation board member, a pork producer board member, and was in the Albion stockyards “storytellers” country club. Charles loved his family very much and was a very loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather.
Survivors include two sons Robert Waters and Roger Waters of Albion, IL, a daughter Gail Edwards of Indianapolis, IN, a daughter-in-law Alicia Waters of Albion, four grandchildren Heather (Jeff) Duncan of Albion, Heather Waters, wife of the late Matthew Waters, of Fairfield, Lesley (Kevin) Myers of Elletsville, IN, and Laura (Brian) Frette of Indianapolis, IN, 10 great grandchildren Clayton Waters, Cheyenne Duncan, Molly Waters, and Josie Duncan, Erica Joseph, Alexandria Huebner, Emma Mathews, Logan Lopossa, Peyton Myers, and Harper Myers a great great granddaughter Ellington Joseph, a brother Francis (Rosalie) Waters of Albion, two sisters Ruth Kimbrell and Linda Bailey both of Bloomington, IN, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Clella Waters, his grandson Matthew Waters, a brother Lloyd Waters, and two brothers-in-law Lonnie Bailey and Gerald Kimbrell.
Funeral services for Charles Waters will be at 11am on Thursday, January 4th, at the Little Prairie Christian Church in Albion, with burial to follow in Bethel Cemetery in Ellery, with full military rites. Visitation will be from 5pm-8pm on Wednesday, January 3rd at the Little Prairie Christian Church, and the family has requested casual dress for the services. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to either the Bethel Cemetery fund, the Albion VFW, or the Edwards County Farm Bureau Foundation and will be accepted at the time services or at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield which is in charge of arrangements.
