The U.S. Supreme Court is denying an Illinois lawmaker’s request to review Illinois’ high court ruling that upheld the state’s assault weapons ban. The denial of State Representative Dan Caulkins’ request essentially closes the door on any legal challenges to the law. The Illinois Supreme Court ruled in August that the gun ban doesn’t violate the state constitution. Governor Pritzker signed the law last year in response to the deadly Fourth of July shooting in Highland Park in 2022.
