Kenneth Robert Shields, 77, of Hillsboro, Ohio and formerly of Dahlgren, Illinois passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Kenneth was born February 26, 1946 to Kenneth Avery Shields and Jean Mary (Oliver) Shields. He was the oldest of 9 children.
Kenneth was retired from Continental Tire in Mt. Vernon, IL where he worked as a Passenger & Light Truck Tire Builder. He had also worked as a stable hand, and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Belle Rive Baptist Church in Belle Rive, IL.
He loved riding motorcycles, going to classic car shows, sailing, and camping. He enjoyed riding his bicycle, and taking his kids on bike rides with him.
Kenneth is survived by 3 sons: Melvin Shields & wife Elizabeth, Thomas Shields, and Kenneth Robert Shields Jr., 6 grandchildren, and 8 siblings: Nancy Johnson, Kathy Jackson & husband Bob, Dorothy Lake, Bill Shields & wife Denise, Yvonne Schwengel & husband Marc, Tom Shields & wife Connie, Roland Shields, and Debora Shields; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth & Jean Shields, an infant grandson, 2 brothers-in-law: Steve Johnson and Dan Lake, a nephew Rick Ryckman, and a niece Michelle Hauxwell.
A celebration of life service for Kenneth Robert Shields will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren, IL with Pastor Jacob Gray officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 12 noon until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
