High winds, and cold temps are the current weather story for the area. In the latest information from the National Weather Service at Paducah, a wind advisory is in affect today for Wayne, Jefferson, Marion, Clay, Richland, Lawrence, Hamilton, and Franklin counties. Meanwhile, a high wind warning is in place for Edwards, White, Gallatin, and Saline Counties. The advisories and warnings are in place thru Midnight tonight. According to info from the weather service, the worst of the winds in our area will be between Noon and Midnight.
Heavy rain will be in the area as well through much of the day. Projected rainfall totals are between 2 and 3 inches in the area.
On the snow side of things, the chances of snowfall are diminishing. Through much of the area, meteorologists at Paducah are forecasting a 10 percent chance of snowfall. The paducah area has the greatest chance of snow in the entire region at around 30 percent.
One thing that is not subsiding though is the cold temperatures and wind chills. According to the latest data, Lows in Western Wayne, Jefferson, Marion, Clay , and Northern Hamilton and Franklin Counties are forecasted to be between 0 and 4 above. Eastern Wayne, southern Hamilton, southern Franklin, Gallatin, Saline, Edwards, Wabash, White, Richland, and Lawrenceville Counties are projected to be between 5 and 10 above. The Wind Chill data shows the wind chills in the area will be between -5 and -15 throughout the area.
Weather service officials say with all of the wind and rain, power outages may be possible. It is recommended you have your utility company’s app or contact information available to report outages.
During the extreme cold, weather service officials recommend tips on staying safe from the elements and in the event of you get stranded. Tips include dressing in layers, avoiding sweating and or getting wet, checking in family and neighbors, and knowing the symptoms of hypothermia. Those symptoms include uncontrollable shivering, memory loss, disorientation, slurred speech, or apparent exhaustion. For Winter Traveling, they say to share your travel plans with friends and family, winterize your vehicle, pack an emergency kit with food, water, medicines, and blankets, and to check road conditions.
