Mary Ruth Crackel, 76, of Grayville, Illinois, died Friday, January 12, 2024, at Wabash General Hospital in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. She was born September 4, 1947, in Grayville, the daughter of Harry and Ruth (Read) Spruell. She was married to Gale Keith Crackel on June 7, 1966, and he preceded her in death in September, 2021.
Mary was an avid reader and she enjoyed Bible studies. She was a life-long, faithful member of the First Christian Church in Grayville. Some of her favorite pastimes were watching Hallmark movies, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed caring for children and working as a sales representative for Tupperware.
Survivors include daughters Rachel (Scottie) Vaughan of Mt. Carmel, Joanna (Meggan) Thorn of Albion, Illinois; brothers James Spruell of Evansville, Indiana, Tom Spruell of Fairfield, Illinois, David (Connie) Spruell of Grayville, Billy Spruell of South Carolina; sisters Letha (Jack) Harris of Tennessee, Rosalie Spruell of Grapevine, Texas; sister-in-law Marla Moody of Lawrenceville, Illinois; grandchildren Savana Richardson, Gage Conner, Chloe Conner; great-grandchildren Paisley Gunther, Landon Canady; and her beloved dog, Rufus.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brothers Sam and Jerry Spruell.
Visitation and funeral are Saturday, January 20, 2024, at First Christian Church in Grayville, Illinois. Visitation is 10 am to 12 noon. Funeral is at 12 noon with burial in Ridge Cemetery west of Grayville.
Memorials may be made to the Oil Belt Christian Service Camp and will be accepted at the visitation.
