Eva Hicks, 87, of Olney, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at StoneBridge Memory Care in Olney.
Eva was born September 14, 1936 in Mt. Erie, Illinois, the daughter of Herman and Pearl (Annis) Greifzu. She married Billy Hicks on February 27, 1954 in Olney, and he survives.
Eva worked at Champ Labs for over 30 years and started on the factory floor and ended her career in the chemistry lab. She enjoyed her career there. Eva also enjoyed being physically active and when she was younger she took pleasure in running in road races, riding the motorcycle with her husband, and bowling. She especially loved being a grandmother and was very proud of her grandchildren. Eva would support all of their activities and attended as many of their events as she could. Eva loved animals, especially cats. She had a very kind heart for strays and would take them in as her own. The family of Eva Hicks will mourn her loss as she is irreplaceable and will be missed by her many friends and family.
Eva is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, Billy Hicks of Olney; son, Billy Joe Hicks of Berryville, IL; daughter, Brenda Bursch and husband John of Beaufort, SC; daughter, Kimberly Jones and husband Darnall of Bradenton, FL; grandchildren, Skyler (Amanda) Bursch, Sophia Bursch, Savannah Jones, and Ciara Jones; great grandchild, Madelyn Bursch; sisters, Ruby Whitten and Ruth Elliott; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bill, Guy, and Glen Greifzu; sisters, Marie McKay and Mary Greifzu.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at the Christian Church of Olney.
Interment will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg.
