The latest information from the Illinois Department of Public Health as of late last week shows over half of Illinois’ 102 counties are at an elevated level for COVID-19 hospitalizations. They also report the state’s overall respiratory illness level has dropped in recent weeks and is listed as low.

The Centers For Disease Control’s data tracker indicates Wayne County is listed at a medium level of COVID-19 hospitalizations, along with Clay and Jefferson counties. Eight hospitalizations have been reported in Wayne and Jefferson counties with six reported in Clay County, according to weekly data.

The IDPH continues to stress the importance of remembering that the respiratory virus season can last into the spring and additional increases in illness rates are a possibility.
