Dispatcher in Marion County as Well as Firefighter Passes in Salem

Over the weekend, a 19-year-old Firefighter for Salem and a dispatcher from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office passed away.

According to the obituary from Crouse Funeral Home in Salem, Harley Douglas Carter passed away at his home.

Harley worked as a dispatcher for the Marion County Sheriff’s Department and was a dedicated volunteer for the Salem Fire Protection District.  He enjoyed being able to serve his community and his county in his career.  He enjoyed playing the guitar, driving his truck, and being with his friends and family.

Celebration of Life for Harley Douglas Carter will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Grace Church of the Nazarene in Salem with Pastor Trent Ice officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the service. The Salem Fire Protection District and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department will be providing an Honor Guard during the visitation. A flag presentation and Honors will be conducted by the Marion County Fire Service Honor Guard. For those who wish, memorials can be made to the Salem Fire Protection District or to a fund for his niece and nephews, and can be left at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem.
