Overall, the state of Illinois is reported to be seeing a decline in seasonal respiratory viruses according to the latest report from the CDC.

The report also showed that Wayne County, along with Jefferson County, has risen to what is considered moderate levels for COVID-19 hospitalizations. Four other counties in the southern part of the state were considered at an elevated level,.

Wayne County had six hospitalizations in the latest report, while Jefferson County also had six hospitalizations. Marion County had five new hospitalizations. Clay County had one new hospitalization.

Dr. Sameer Vohra, Illinois Department of Public Health Director, said while cases were declining, they would remain diligent as they near the end of the winter respiratory season. He is also encouraging residents to use tools at their disposal to stay safe, especially if they are most vulnerable to severe health outcomes from COVID-19, as well as the flu and RSV.
