Gerald “Jerry” Taylor, 84, of Wayne City, IL

Gerald “Jerry” Taylor, 84, of Wayne City, IL passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at his home in Wayne City.  Jerry was born on September 18, 1939 to Hazel & Madeline (Hall) Taylor.  On July 15, 1961 he married Connie (Johnston) Taylor, who preceded him in death on May 15, 2022.

Jerry had worked as an oil field worker, a roofer, and before retirement worked for Coatings Applications & Waterproofing.  He enjoyed watching his own kids compete in area horse shows, attending the Kentucky Derby several times, watching his grandchildren compete in sporting events, and in recent years he loved watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball games.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he loved his community and helping others.  He had many friends, and he will be missed dearly.

Jerry is survived by 4 children: a daughter Terri (Travis) Helm, son Todd Taylor, son Tracy Taylor, and son Trent (Sonali) Taylor; 6 grandchildren: Jade (Matthew) Staley, Devin (Cody) Snow, Jaxon (Briannah) Helm, Chance “Mac” Taylor, Tripp Taylor, and Shelbi Yanez; 5 great grandchildren: Rhett Staley, Aubrey Staley, Jerritt Staley, Logan Snow, and Elliott Snow; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Hazel & Madeline Taylor, his wife of 60 years – Connie (Johnston) Taylor, 2 brothers: Kenneth Taylor, Donnie (JoAnn) Taylor, 3 sisters: Mary Lou (Donald) McLean, Aleen (Mike) Pilson, and Betty (Art) Whitsell; his in-laws: Tommy & Louise Johnston, and brothers-in-law: Terry (Carlene) Johnston, and Carol (Babe) Johnston.

Funeral services for Gerald “Jerry” Taylor will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City with Bro. Matthew Staley officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6 at Young Funeral Home.  Interment will follow the funeral service at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City, IL.
