Yvonne Ernestine “Tina” Berry, age 75, died February 3, 2024 in O’Fallon, IL. She was born April 2, 1948 in High Point, North Carolina to a family that moved with the interstate road construction schedule, with Tina attending 12 schools before her high school graduation. In Vincennes, IN, she met and fell in love with Richard “Dick” Berry, and they married in 1970. Their daughter Bonnie and son Theron joined them as they settled in Fairfield, IL, which Tina called home for the last 44 years.
Tina was most comfortable in the background, quietly taking care of those around her. Her patience and understanding were helpful in raising her children, who may have occasionally caused their parents some frustration. Tina’s unconditional love encompassed her step-daughter Anita Campbell and family of Missouri, Bonnie’s husband Richard Denton and their son Henry of Connecticut, and Theron’s wife Kiera (Schell) Berry and their daughter Nora of California. Her grandchildren’s adventures and activities were gifts she treasured.
Her work outside the house focused on children, from the Toy Box daycare to her time as a classroom and special needs paraprofessional at Center Street Elementary School and beyond. She loved her time with the kids and the teachers, with whom she remained very close.
Tina was predeceased by Dick and her parents Hyacinth (McCaskill) Marlowe and Ernie Marlowe. Her final physical contribution was to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois, where she will continue teaching the medical professionals of the future. Her stories will be told by her children and grandchildren, friends, and neighbors. Her life will be celebrated in her house and garden on Saturday, February 10, from 10 am until noon. Friends are invited to come and go as desired, wear comfy garden clothes, bring your favorite coffee cup, and share a memory with those who also loved her. We ask only for your presence – no flowers, gifts, or food are necessary.
