In this part of Illinois, you have felt the pain at the pump as gas prices over the last week have jumped 40 to 50 cents per gallon. Patrick DeHann with Gasbuddy says that gas prices are going to continue to stay higher than they should be.
DeHaan says the outage at the BP refinery in Whiting, Indiana has been more significant than previously thought. He says, based on the latest information, the refinery has still not gotten back to full capacity.
Checking pricing throughout Southern Illinois from AAA, the price ranges from $3.24 per gallon to $3.66 per gallon. The average Illinois Gas Price is $3.39 per gallon.
In our area, gas prices according to AAA show Edwards County paying the highest at #3.49 per gallon. Average in Wayne County is currently sitting at $3.33 per gallon. Richland County has the cheapest average gas price at $3.31 per gallon.
DeHaan says relief may come soon with the change over from winter to summer blend gasoline, which is cheaper to make.
