The Fairfield City Council met for their first February meeting at city hall.
A discussion was held concerning fees charged at Maple Hill Cemetery. Currently, The fee to open a grave from Monday afternoon through Friday is $400.00, with the fee for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday morning set at $500.00. The proposed changes would leave the Monday afternoon through Friday fee at $400.00, with the Saturday, holiday, and Monday morning fee increasing to $600.00. No Sunday burials will be permitted under the new proposal. Since this was only a discussion item, the City Attorney will draft the ordinance changes for action at the next council meeting.
A TIF agreement was approved with Richard & Amy Hooper, who have remodeled a building in the 100 block of NE 4th St. into a barber shop. The total cost of the project was $42,000, with $10,500 in TIF dollars approved.’
A no parking ordinance was unanimously approved by the council for certain areas of Sluder St. Driveaway accessibility and room for emergency vehicles have been an issue on this street. No Parking signage will be installed in the area.
The council officially declared a TIF Surplus, with 70% for the taxing bodies.
The council approved a Family Medical Leave Act consisting of 12 weeks of unpaid leave within a 12 month period. Previously, the city had not adopted any type of Family Medical Leave.
The council unanimously approved an ordinance forming a Business District Committee and Procedure for Implementing the Business District Plan. The committee will be the same as the current TIF Committee.
