Jane A. Best, 65, of Fairfield, died at 4:10pm on Monday, February 19, 2024, at her home.
Jane was born on May 6, 1958, in Fairfield, IL, to Donald G. and Lorene (Blades) Johnson. On July 15, 1990, she married the love of her life, Jerry Lee Best.
Jane had been a teacher for the Fairfield Public School District #112 for 34 years. She was very proud of being able to go back to college as an adult to earn her master’s degree from Eastern Illinois University. Jane had been the head coach of the girls and boy’s tennis teams at Fairfield Community High School for 7 years. She loved her job as coach. She became a member of the retired teacher’s association in Fairfield. According to her family, she was a great wife, mother, cook, and golfer, as her and Jerry loved to play in golf tournaments.
Survivors include her husband Jerry Best and her daughter Jillian Best, both of Fairfield, two sisters Beverly Johnson and Carolyn Johnson both of Oshkosh, WI, a brother David (Jennifer) Johnson of Fairfield, along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Don Johnson.
Funeral services for Jane Best will be at 10am on Saturday, February 24th at the New Beginnings Church in Fairfield, with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5pm-7pm on Friday, February 23rd at the New Beginnings Church. Memorial donations can be made to the Jane Best Memorial Scholarship Fund, with funds being awarded to eligible students on the tennis team at FCHS. Donations will be accepted during the service times or at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of the arrangements.
