During the morning before heading to work on Tuesday, gas was $3.35 per gallon at most filling stations. Just before 9, many stations raised gas prices to $3.69 per gallon, a 34 cent per gallon jump.
In recent weeks, the BP refinery has been reportedly down in Northwestern Indiana, affecting the gasoline supply in this region of the county. In Southern Illinois, the two major oil refineries are in Robinson and Roxana.
According to a report from Reuters, the refinery has been closed since the early part of the month and is forecast to return back to normal operations within the next few days.
