Officer-Involved Shooting in Central IL

One person is dead in an officer-involved shooting on I-55 near Lexington, Illinois, in the central part of the state.

According to media reports and the Illinois State Police, an investigation is underway involving a shooting which occurred around 12:45 Saturday afternoon. In a statement from the Illinois State Police, they said troopers responded to a report of shots fired on I-55 northbound near Lexington. Two vehicles had pulled over, and were on the shoulder of the interstate. Once officers arrived, they saw a subject shooting at the other vehicle. The subject then pointed a firearm at police, and gunfire was exchanged with the subject, who was struck and pronounced dead.

In the statement, ISP said special agents of the Illinois State Police Division of Internal Investigation are investigating the incident, and the ISP is processing evidence and conducting interviews. No other information on the incident was available.
