Johnie T. “Terry” Powell, 75, formerly of Fairfield, died on Monday, February 19, 2024, at AdventHealth Hospital in Tavares, FL.
Terry was born on September 9, 1948, in Peoria, IL, to Johnie and Eloise (Mitchell) Powell. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and served in the Vietnam War.
Terry had been a local used car dealer for many years. After retiring, he moved to Grand Island, FL. He was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his life partner Susan Murphy of Grand Island, FL, three sons Philip (Melissa) Powell of Fairfield, Brent Powell, Mike (Marla) Murphy of Lewis Center, OH, a daughter Debby (Nic) Hyatt of St. Charles, MO, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a sister Glenna (Butch) Burwell of Woodlawn, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an aunt Glen Ellen Mitchell, and a great-grandson Bryon Couch.
Graveside services for Terry Powell will be held at 11am on Wednesday, February 28th at Maple Hill Cemetery in Fairfield with full military rites provided by the Anthony Wayne Post #176 American Legion and the Wayne County Post #4535 VFW. Visitation will be from 5pm-7pm on Tuesday, February 27th at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield. Memorial donations can be made to the Wayne County Post #4535 VFW for upkeep of the veteran’s section of Maple Hill Cemetery and will be accepted.
