Police in Williamson County, IL issued warrants for 28 people earlier this week after deputies checked on nearly 200 sex offenders across the county.
The Sheriff’s Office said they had conducted a sex offender compliance operation for all 186 registered sex offenders in the county.
As of Friday, 17 people had been arrested and 11 others are wanted, all served with arrest warrants and charged with violating the Sex Offender Registration Act, which is a Class 3 felony, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Nearly 24 deputies visited homes and workplaces to verify accurate registration of the offenders over a ten day period.
