 Lifetime Cubs fan Joseph Frank Willis, 96, of Mahomet, IL formerly of Carmi passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Bridle Brook Assisted Living in Mahomet. He was born on June 13, 1927 in Tamaroa, IL the son of Charles Raymond and Marietta Merle (Marlow) Willis. Joe joined the Illinois State Police in 1950 and retired with 30 years of service, then went on to serve as the Richland County Sheriff from 1980 to 1990. Joe also served a term as President of the Illinois Sheriff’s Association. Joe was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carmi, Carmi American Legion Post #224, Carmi VFW Post #3851, AMVETS, FOP, Illinois Sheriffs Association, Moose Lodge in Grayville and Elks Lodge #926 in Olney. He faithfully served his county in the United State Army during World War II.    Joseph is survived by his children, Sandra Jo Willis of Newton, IL, Paula Gwen Mueller and husband Todd of Valencia, CA, William Joseph Willis and wife Teresa of Blufton, SC, and Mary Elizabeth Wileaver and husband Eric of Savoy, IL; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Bobbi (Wilson) Willis, parents and three siblings, Charles Willis, Betty Hequembourg, and Jack Willis.     Funeral services forJoseph Frank Willis will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at Tamaroa Cemetery in Tamaroa, Illinois with full military rites. Family and friends may visit from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
