Dorothy Lea Sanders 91, of McLeansboro

Dorothy Lea Sanders 91, of McLeansboro passed away Friday, March 15th 2024 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. Dorothy was a member of Webb’s Chapel in McLeansboro. The only daughter of Paul and Maggie (Van Winkle) Flannigan, she was born on January 8th 1933 in Norris City Il. Dorothy married Roy Eugene Sanders from Oklahoma in June of 1951. They made their home in Mcleansboro where they raised three sons, Kirk (Linda) Sanders, Jesse Sanders, and Gary Dean (Giselle) Sanders, all of McLeansboro. Dorothy enjoyed quilting and was an avid gardener and doting grandmother of eight grandchildren Jake (Michelle) Sanders of New Mexico, Amelia Arvin, of Enfield, Cale (Jodi) Sanders of Benton, Joni (Vince) Jones of McLeansboro, Jesse (Brandy) Sanders of McLeansboro, Justin (Elizabeth) Sanders of Fairfield, Corey Sanders of McLeansboro, and Melanie Sanders of McLeansboroand sixteen great-grandchildren; Gabriel, Owen, Riley, Nora, Merrick, Delaney, Jacob, Clara, Luke, Devon, Adorn, Laya, Beckham, Bearett, Emery and Kiya. Dorothy is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her brother Danny (Janet) Flannigan of McLeansboro, Nieces Annie Flannigan of Enfield, and Vickie Flannigan of Springerton, PattyPennington of Enfield, Samantha (Jonathon) Lewis of West Frankfort and Nephews Barry (Pam) Flannigan of McLeansboroand Sean Paul Flannigan of McLeansboro. She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Roy, her mother and father Paul and Maggie Flannigan, One brother Richard Flannigan and a niece Debbie Flannigan.

Graveside services only will be held Tuesday March 19th at 1pm at Prospect Cemetery with pastor Mike Johnsy officiating. Harre Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Saint Jude’s Childrens Hospital.
