Fairfield Fights Pair of Suspicious Fires Over the Weekend

Fairfield Fire responded to a couple of suspicious fire calls over the weekend.

On Friday, crews received a report of a camper on fire at 1111 SW 3rd Street at 1:22am. The first crew arrived 3 minutes later to find a fully involved camper on fire away from exposures. The fire was knocked down in less than 10 minutes. The camper was a total loss and there were no injuries reported. At the time of the fire the camper did not have any utilities hooked to it. Al fire units cleared off the scene at 2:31 am. The fire is under investigation by the Fairfield FD and Fairfield PD. Fairfield FD was assisted on this call by Fairfield PD, Wayne County SO and Wayne County 911.

On Sunday, the Fairfield FD was alerted to a structure fire at 704 SW 6th Street at 9:21 am. Upon arrival three minutes later, heavy smoke and flames were visible from the outside of the residential structure. Fire suppression efforts began and the fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes. There were no utilities at the residence and it is considered a total loss. The Illinois State Fire Marshall Office was contacted and assisted FD and FPD. The Fairfield FD was assisted at the scene by Fairfield Rural FPD, Wayne County Ambulance, Fairfield PD, Wayne County 911, City of Fairfield Gas Department and Illinois State Fire Marshall Office. There was a report of one injury to firefighter. The Fairfield FD cleared the scene at 3:35pm.
