The Fairfield City Council met Tuesday evening for their second March session, working through an 8 item agenda in 30 minutes.
The council unanimously voted to purchase the current Midwest Food Bank building and property near Southwest Park for $200,000. Midwest Food Bank will continue to use the facility 2 days per month. The city also owns the properties surrounding the purchased property.
Aldermen voted to spend $25,359 with Hayes Plumbing & Heating for a new HVAC system for the Chamber of Commerce building. The purchase did not require bidding since the vote was over the 2/3 majority needed for approval. Alderman Terry Stahl voted no on the purchase.
Councilmen approved a TIF agreement with the New Wayne County Agricultural Fair for electrical work to the grandstand. The amount approved was $7,000.
An ordinance was unanimously passed changing property zoning status from I Zone to R-3. The property is the Bobcat Crossing Student Housing near the Frontier campus. A Public Hearing was conducted prior to the council meeting, with no objections.
The council Unanimously voted to approve a $15,000 expenditure for this year’s Fireworks Celebration. The celebration has been tentatively set for July 5.
In miscellaneous comments, Mayor Moore announced that he has declared April as Inoperable Vehicle Month, with Fairfield Police instructed to ticket inoperable vehicles. He also requested alderman to contact authorities with any inoperable vehicles in their respective wards.
The mayor also announced that City Hall and city departments will be open on April 8, Eclipse Day.
Work on resurfacing Main St. is expected to continue after the Eclipse.
