Mildred Anne “Mimi” Jones

Mildred  Anne “Mimi” Jones, 86, of Cape Coral, Florida, formerly of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida. She was born February 27, 1938 in Sims, Illinois to the late Alfred and Vera (Robertson) Baker. Mimi married John Orville Jones on August 1, 1964 at Central Christian Church in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with nearly 60 years of marriage.In addition to her beloved husband, Mimi is survived by her daughter, Natalie and Robert Potochney of Thonotosassa, Florida; son, Aaron and Kimberly Jones of Bluford, Illinois; grandchildren, Rob and Jessica Potochney of Crawfordville, Florida, Eric and Christy Potochney of Lake Wales, Florida, Kirstie and Matt Hooten of Fort Worth, Texas, Karin and John Pace of Woodlawn, Illinois, and Kamillia and Isaac Lowery of Bluford, Illinois; twelve great-grandchildren; siblings, Caroline and Charles Johnson of Morris, Illinois, Homer Baker of Mount Vernon, and Rhonda and Danny West of Oakland, Illinois; sister-in-law, Kay and Jim Ellis of Henderson, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mimi was preceded in death by her brother, James Layton Baker; sister, Helen Lorraine Tripp; father-in-law, Orville Ray Jones; mother-in-law, Nora Christine Minor and husband, Estel “Peck,” the father who raised John; and siblings-in-law, Doris Baker and Sidney Tripp. Mimi was an elementary school teacher and taught Kindergarten at Bluford Grade School for many years. She is a lifetime member of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Teachers Society. While living in Illinois, Mimi was a part of the Sigma Chapter and since moving to Florida, she is now a part of the Gamma Zeta Chapter. Recently, she became a Golden Sister. Mimi was greatly loved and will be missed by those who knew and adored her.   A Visitation will be held Friday, May 3, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 10:30 pm at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois with Minister Michael Sheets officiating. Interment will follow.
