Harlan Brent Opell, 67, of Fairfield passed away at 9:03PM on Tuesday April 23, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield IL. He was a farmer. Brent was born in Vincennes IN on November 17, 1956, to Harlan and Lois (Cochran) Opell. He married Dana Koontz on March 11, 2011.
Brent is survived by his wife- Dana Opell of Fairfield; daughters- Casey (Colton Bass) Opell and Chelsea (Brandon) Bittles both of Fairfield; son- Tyler Lashbrook of Fairfield; grandchildren- Andrew Bittles, Mason Bittles, Corinne Bittles, Sage and Essie Lashbrook; sisters- Brenda (Eddie) King and Cathy (Vernon) Cates both of Fairfield; brothers- Rick Opell and Denny (Georgia) Opell both of Fairfield; mother-in-law Phyllis Koontz of Fairfield; various nieces and nephews also survive.
Brent was preceded in death by his parents, and father-in-law- Dennis Koontz.
A graveside service will be held at 2PM on Tuesday April 30, 2024, at Cumberland Chapel Cemetery. Everyone is asked to go directly to the cemetery. The family has requested that everyone attending honor Brent by wearing either red for Farmall or Blue for Ford.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to help with funeral expenses and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of all the arrangements.
